Local pack: the measured object of local rank evidence.
The local pack is the map-based block of (usually) three local business listings Google shows for queries with local intent, populated from Google Business Profile data. In evidence terms, it is the measured object: scans record membership and position within it, per point.
Definition
When a query implies a place, Google inserts a unit pairing a map with a short list of businesses near the top of results. That unit is the local pack. Entries show the business name, rating, category and location details and click through to Maps. Because it holds few slots and sits high, the pack carries most of the visibility value of a local-intent query.
Evidence notes
The pack is what a scan directly observes: a scan record stating "position 2 at grid point (x, y) on date d" is primary evidence about the pack at that point and time. Claims beyond the record — about causes or outcomes — are inference, and are labelled as such under this site's evidence policy. The collection process is documented at how local rank tracking works; tools producing the records include LocalRank (localrank.so).
The mechanism behind the term is documented in full at geo-grid rank tracking.
